This is the logo final design assignment, utilizing Illustrator as a primary application. Click on LOGO DESIGN DRAFT to view the initial design draft assignment with the commentary from Logo Design Group 4 (Steve Steinhour, Dana Simmons, Adriana Gonzalez)
For my logo design I chose the topic that is close to my heart. I strongly believe a healthy society should be responsible to advocating for not only sustainability and human rights but also for animal rights and advocacy.
As in relation to my topic “Know Your Audience” I turned to Google and searched for organizations in the area that were best match to my activist Facebook page “Animal Rights PNW.” I quickly found several organizations and reviewed their branding. I discovered that all three organizations had something in common with their branding – the shield and the elements of their logo that represent the topic of animal protection (paw prints, animal silhouettes, words used in the title). I knew that I did not need to re-invent the appeal to the audience, with that in mind my design was born.
Thanks to my peers for their valuable suggestions. Adriana helped me realize that the “Animals Rights” and “PNW” did not connect as good in the draft. I resized the text of the logo to better connect with each other.
Steve helped me recognize that there is maybe something in the icon logo that perhaps later on could evolve into a full logo. Just the paw and the shield make the logo look minimalistic but still keep the same effect and clearly deliver the same message to the audience.
Thanks to Dana, who recommended me to utilize the colors that would make the logo “pop.” The red and blue are the primary colors that definitely add that “pop” effect to the logo.
Originally I wanted to stay neutral and not use any colors until I had my idea flashed out. For my final design I chose to pick stable, strong primary colors to make my logo vibrant with high-impact. With my ribbon in blue (stability, truth, loyalty, wisdom) and the shield in red (strength, confidence, determination) I knew my logo would speak well to my audience.
One other element I added to my final design was the radial ray burst. I strategically placed it so the rays would generate from the bottom of the shield, centered behind the paw paw print, thus symbolizing the cause in the rising rays (like a morning sunrise) for animal advocacy.
With a full size logo, web logo, header style, icon and banner, I gave my design a diverse scalability where my brand would be represented in a wider range of media (both in print and/or digital form).
All elements are vectors shapes paths and outlines, so if the logo needs to be resized, one can do that without loosing any quality and resolution.
Below you can see a single example of a graphic utilizing the header logo (could be used on mailers, as a top of the page of the brochure, or a flyer).
